Brilliant Shop Lighting On A Budget With Amazing Results!

When I first built my shop I of course needed some light in there. So I started out with an 8 pack of four foot LED strip lights. They are currently not available but they are similar to these.

At this time I even added two old school eight foot regular florescent light fixtures. They were given to me for free by a customer of mine so I figured why not, might as well install these as well.

For a couple of years I was very happy with the amount of lighting in my 16′ x 16′ shop and I would say that I still am. However, I would say that there is a couple of “dark” areas in my shop.

Now these “dark” areas I speak of I think for most people this would not be a big deal. But the fact that I also film videos for YouTube I have found that getting the most amount of light for a shot is very important.

I found that when I was doing close up work on my workbench I would use these plug in portable light fixtures to add some “spot” light on what I was working on. These work fine as you can simply clamp them onto something near you but at the same time this does take effort to do so every time you need them.

So, I figured I would start doing some research for a low budget, permanent solution. What I found were these 3 light LED shop lights while watching a YouTube video on shop lighting. To say they looked bright on video was an understatement.

The timing of this just happen to be right before Christmas so I figured I would add them to my Christmas list and I was lucky enough to get a set from my mother. Thanks Mom!

After bring them up to the shop I decided to do a quick test and screw them into the clamp lights I mentioned before. WOW! They are bright! I reached up and clamped one above my work bench and was astonished at the amount of extra light!

These lights emit a jaw-dropping 6000 Lumens of power! To put that in perspective a regular 60-watt soft white incandescent light bulb produces about 840 Lumens.

But how easy are they to install you may ask? EASY! Especially if you already have a light socket installed in your ceiling. It’s the same as installing a regular light bulb. Unscrew the old bulb and screw in this fixture. Done!

However, if you do not have a light socket like me, and you do not have the knowledge to install one, please have a professional electrician install one for you. Or, if you have the capabilities like me you can just install the light socket yourself. But please do so at your own risk.

Now that I have two of these light fixtures installed I think I’m going to remove the old florescent light fixtures. They don’t add much to the overall amount of light and I’m always worried about knocking off a bulb with a ladder anyway.

For now I will stick with the original strip LED lighting to provide the overall lighting to the shop and the new fixtures to fill in where needed. I could see myself adding two more on the other end of my shop, one over my table saw and maybe the other near my band saw.

So in closing if you need some more light you should really check these out! If you have any questions just let me know. And be sure to check out the below video on my YouTube channel to see these lights in action.
